Local Association Leaders – Some Items You Need to Complete Now!

The new association year begins July 1. NAIFA requires each local association to perform certain tasks at the beginning of each year. If you have not already done so, you need to do the following:

- Complete the NAIFA Dues and Data Update Form. This brief form includes your local association’s contact information and local dues amount for 2008-2009. You can complete the form online at www.naifa.org/dues-data-updates or you can contact Jan Hartman jhartman@naifa-pa.org or Susan Rupe srupe@naifa-pa.org to obtain a paper copy to complete.

- Submit Your 2008-2009 Officers and Committee Chairs. The list of 2008-2009 officers and committee chairs will be used by NAIFA for communication purposes throughout the year and it also will be the basis of NAIFA-PA’s 2008-2009 Leadership Directory. You can submit this list online via Codewriters, or e-mail your list to srupe@naifa-pa.org or fax your list to NAIFA-PA at 717-234-5190.

Time to Prepare for Life Insurance Awareness Month

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month. Each September, NAIFA joins the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) and more than 100 of the nation’s leading insurance companies and other industry groups. All share the same objective: to end the unnecessary financial suffering that so often occurs when a loved one dies. Life Insurance Awareness Month is a prime opportunity to promote the message of life insurance and to tell your community about the work of NAIFA and its members.

This year, we would like to use Life Insurance Awareness Month to tell our communities about NAIFA-PA and the work that our members and locals do. We are asking each local association to get their local officials (mayor, city or borough council, county commissioners) to sign a proclamation naming September as Life Insurance Awareness Month in that community. We also want you to get a photo of the proclamation signing and submit it for publication in a newspaper in your community.

A sample proclamation, along with instructions on how to submit it for publication, was distributed at NAIFA-PA’s Local Success Planning on May 14. We also have the proclamation and all of the accompanying information available on the NAIFA-PA home page at www.naifa-pa.org.

For those who need additional information, NAIFA-PA will hold a brief conference call at 9 AM July 15. To call in, dial 866-740-1260. The passcode is 2342523.

Start Thinking About Next Year’s Bobo Award

Congratulations to all local associations who submitted an application for the 2007-2008 Jack E. Bobo Award of Excellence! It’s not too early to begin laying the groundwork for next year’s Bobo Award. NAIFA has made major changes in the award application for 2008-2009. We invite you to participate in a webinar on “How to Apply for (and Win) the Jack E. Bobo Award of Excellence.” The webinar is scheduled for 1 PM July 29. Details will be sent to you soon.

NAIFA-Pennsylvania Voluntary Assessment Update

Members will soon receive a mailing and follow-up emails regarding the new voluntary assessment. We are asking members to contribute a minimum of $20 to support a statewide billboard campaign that asks "Is Your Insurance Agent Connected? They Should Be." This voluntary assessment, along with some selected town meetings, local proclamations for life insurance awareness month and greater awareness of our Keystone Foundation will greatly increase NAIFA-PA's visibility with the general public and the industry. Stay tuned for more information.
